65-year-old Ralph Schatzmair breaks world hour record for age group

Ralph Schatzmair broke the world hour record for ages 65-69 on Saturday, with an incredible ride at the Day of the Hour in Milton, Ont., at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre. The Canadian had a thrilling ride to beat the existing record—which was held by Roger Cull at 44.640 km. Schatzmair finished with 44.662 km, enough to take the record.

He wasn’t the only one to break some records:

Barb Morris of Courtenay, B.C., set a new Canadian master women’s hour record, F65-69, at 38.838 km.

Pat Baker of Laguna Hills, Calif., USA, opening a new category, established the world and American hour record for master women, F85-89, at 24.978 km.

Derek Steel of Courtenay, B.C., established a new world and Canadian hour record for master men, M80-84, at 39.836 km, eclipsing the record set in 2017 at the very first Day of the Hour by Giuseppe Marinoni.

Canadians TJ Howorth, Scott Buschlen, David Hainish, and Kenneth Woo set a Canadian record for master men’s team pursuit at 4:37.345 with a speed of 51.921 km/h.
