From Vancouver based company Arc’teryx, a name synonymous with waterproof apparel comes a new collection of mountain bike specific apparel focused on keeping you dry in the trails while maintaining freedom of movement on the bike.
Rhoam, an Arc’teryx mountain bike capsule contains three new pieces including a jacket, pants and shorts. Tested by Arc’teryx team members in the harsh North Shore climate home to the company’s design centre, the project started as an internal passion project, but quickly became fully realized as their first foray into the mountain bike space. Considering the company’s pedigree with making waterproof/Gore-Tex jackets and the fact they are located in the wettest climate in the country one would expect this line to tick all the right boxes.
Rhoam Hybrid jacket
The Rhoam jacket is made from waterproof Gore-Tex Windstopper material and backed with a Gore C-Knit liner that is relatively cozy against bare skin. The hybrid term comes from the two soft shell panels located under the arms. The lighter and more breathable material elevates the comfort and mobility thanks to its stretch. The fit is excellent, and does not restrict any movement on the bike.
Arc’teryx classifies this jacket as “fitted.” It is tailored very well for a position on the bike, but there is also enough room for layering if needed. The hood has been designed perfectly. It fits easily on top of a trail style helmet. The hood has a cinch cord to keep everything tight and the field of vision is not restricted thankfully. Something standard rain shells always seem to lack for riding. The jacket has a single chest pocket and two pockets positioned close to the hip and angled in such a way that they are easily accessible while riding.
The side and back positioning of the pockets also eliminates anything in your pockets from dangling off your front while riding. This feature really separates the Rhoam jacket from your standard waterproof shell and makes for a better riding experience. Or at least the best you can hope for when you have to wear a rain jacket.
Rhoam Hybrid pant
Unlike the jacket, the Rhoam pants are made from two different kinds of durable water repellant softshell. A lighter fabric for the top of the waistband and behind the knees where things can get sticky and a more…
