What a finish! The third day of racing at La Vuelta España Femenina had a thrilling finale, and Victoria’s Sarah Van Dam was right there, once again agonizingly close to a win.
Brilliant move by Kerbaol
Cédrine Kerbaol delivered a perfectly timed late move to win stage 3 of La Vuelta España Femenina. She took off from a reduced front group in the closing kilometres and held it on to the line in A Coruña.
The EF Education-Oatly rider attacked on the final rise after a day shaped by all sorts of attacks. The French rider played it cool, waited for a lull and then got a gap. It was a master class in how to win a bike race.
Sprint just behind
Behind her, Lotte Kopecky led the sprint for second, with Van Dam rounding out the podium after a strong ride through the selective finale. It’s another great ride by the Canadian, and surely we’re going to see her on the top rung of the podium soon, the way she’s riding.
The 121.2-km stage from Padrón featured more than 2,000 mof climbing, much of it packed into the final third. Though none of the late climbs were categorised, they proved decisive, steadily thinning the peloton and setting up an aggressive run-in that also included cobbles.
An early break from Sterre Vervloet and Felicity Wilson-Haffenden animated the day, with the latter pressing on solo before being reeled in inside the final 20 kilometres. From there, the pace surged as attacks flew on each rise.

Kerbaol’s move ultimately stuck, while Van Dam’s third place lifts her to fourth overall.
Stage 4
The riders now leave the Galician region of Spain. Stage 4 is a lumpy ride from Monforte de Lemos to Antas de Ulla for a total of 115.6km. Paris-Roubaix winner Franziska Koch (FDJ United – SUEZ) remains in red, ahead of Kopecky and Kerbaol. Van Dam is only 14 seconds behind.
