Ella Macphee leads Canadian U23s in Nove Mesto XCO

One day after posting a top 10 result in the short track World Cup in Nove Mesto, Ella Macphee was right back up at the front of the race for the under-23 XCO. The Wilier-Vittoria racer finished fifth in the U23 women’s XCO, leading the Canadian U23 results for Saturday.

Macphee leads in Nove Mesto

Katrin Embacher of Austria put a big dig into the under-23 women’s field, winning by a very solid 1:24 ahead of Anina Hutter and Valentina Corvi on Saturday. Macphee finished on the same minute as the chasing duo, earning her a fifth place in the XCO to add to her top-10 from Friday’s XCC race.

Rafaelle Carrier followed in 25th for Canada with Ella Myers the final Canadian finishing on the lead lap in 36th.

Ackert takes top 20 in Czechia

On the men’s side, it was Thibaut Francois taking a close win for the under-23 XCO. The Spanish rider crossed the line with second and third both on the same minute, 24 and 42 seconds behind. Those spots go, as they did on Friday in the XCC, to Alix Andre Gallis and Nael Rouffaic.

Ian Ackert led the Canuck contingent in Nove Mesto, finishing 17th. Maxime St. Onge followed in 31st, Soren Weslake 34th and Alexander Woodford 52nd.

Racing in Nove Mesto concludes on Sunday with the elite men’s and women’s Olympic distance cross country racing.
