Wout van Aert and his wife Sarah De Bie have become parents of a second son: Jerome. The new addition to the family is the little brother of 2-year-old, George.
Left Tour de France to head home
Van Aert, 28, went home to Belgium on Wednesday after withdrawing from the Tour de France to be with his wife. On Tuesday night, he said goodbye to his teammates, and posted a video message, saying that “time was running out” and that “his place was now home.”
The news that the Belgian would leave the Tour was not completely unexpected, he had an agreement with his Jumbo-Visma squad that he could withdraw if his wife went into labour.
On Thursday, the Belgian posted a photo of his hand, holding De Bie’s and Jerome with the caption “plus d’amour.” (More love.)
Road worlds next up
The couple lives in the Herentals area in the province of Antwerp. Van Aert will focus next on the upcoming world championships in Glasgow as part of the Belgian national team.
