Simone Boilard of the St Michel-Mavic-Auber 93 cycling team took a big win at the one-day GP Oetingen.
Evy Kuijpers from the Fenix-Deceuninck team came in second, eight seconds later, with the finish Maaike Boogaard of AG Insurance-Soudal Quick-Step rounding out the podium.
The 1.1, 119.3-km race was originally supposed to have been run on March 8. After a brutal snow storm, the event was pushed forward to August. This was Boilard’s first win as a professional, after an impressive 2023 season thus far. In June, she finished 7th at the gruelling Alpes Gresivaudan classic after a solid ride at the RideLondon Classique where she finished 13th overall.

At the recent elite women’s road worlds in Glasgow, she finished 32nd, the top Canadian finisher. For 2024 and 2025, the 23-year-old will be joining the Norwegian Uno-X team.
After the race, she posted on Instagram about the big day. “Told you I was not a sprinter! My first pro Win! When I least expected it… This season has been so hard for me dealing with a lot of shit on and off the bike but this week-end I just tried to enjoy racing, be in the moment and stop focusing on the outcome,” her caption read. “I know I took a few detours to get there today and my path hasn’t been the smoothest. I am a tricky athlete to coach that’s for sure. Thanks for everything Pierre Hutsebaut, and many others.”
