Canadian Olympian Maggie Coles-Lyster faced a short turn around in Europe. On Sunday she raced to ninth in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games omnium for Team Canada, and on Monday, 443 km away in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, she started the Tour de France for her trade team Roland. It was an epic transfer day.

In Paris 2024 Coles-Lyster was also part of the team pursuit squad with Ariane Bonhomme, Sarah van Dam and Erin Atwell that placed eighth, and the Maple Ridge, BC native endured a rough, brief Madison with Bonhomme.

It’s Coles-Lyster’s first Tour de France. In late April and early May, Coles-Lyster contested the Vuelta España Femenina, where she as 96th.

Coles-Lyster is one of six Canadians racing the eight-stage, 948-km Tour de France. Alison Jackson, Magdeleine Vallieres, Clara Emond, Olivia Baril and Simone Boilard also lined up in Rotterdam. Baril and Jackson were in the Paris 2024 road race and Baril also contested the time trial. Last season, seven Canadians started, six finished and three—Emond, Baril and Boilard—were in the top-34, Emond highest at 23rd.
