The beauty of Danny MacAskill’s bike films lies in their ability to entertain and inspire. Whether you’re a mountain biker, a skateboarder, or just someone looking for an excuse to get outside, these projects encourage you to interact with the world in new ways.
For his most recent project Campus, Danny and the crew descended on the Adidas headquarters in Germany—a place he’d mentally ridden countless times before. The campus, with its clean architecture and endless rails, walls and drops, looks like a giant video game brought to life. “I’d ridden this spot in my mind a bunch of times,” Danny shares. “It was cool to finally do it for real.”
Pushing boundaries
One of the standout moments of the shoot involved Danny attempting the biggest drop of his career. From over 12 feet up, straight to flat, the impact was colossal. “This one’s proper scary,” he admitted beforehand. “There’s no getting away from how big it is.” The first attempt resulted in a brutal landing, leaving even the slow-motion replay feeling heavy. But he did it.
More than just big hits
Between adrenaline-pumping stunts, the crew found time to inject humor and camaraderie into the mix. Danny and the team goofed around on trampolines, experimented with “hippie hops” (which Danny eventually nailed after 43 tries) and debated what a football celebration might look like for a trials rider.
“I love making these films because it’s a chance to show how much fun you can have pushing your limits,” Danny says. “But also, it’s about sharing those moments with a great team.”
The grand finale
The final trick took Danny to a high beam atop the Adidas Halftime building. The plan? A front flip off the edge into a pond. “It’s like a high-diving board at the Olympics, but with a bike,” Danny laughs. Despite the height and risk, the stunt came together perfectly. “It didn’t even hurt—actually, it was kind of nice in there!”
