A touch of excitement unfolded at the Stage 11 finish line of the Vuelta a España when Jesus Herrada’s soigneur, overwhelmed with joy at his son’s victory, encountered resistance from a stern Spanish police officer.
Herrada came in solo from the lead group of nine, after several attacks unfolded in the closing kilometres. After some long pulls by Ineos-Grenadiers rider Filippo Ganna, for his teammate Geraint Thomas, a flurry of attacks would blow up the break in the finale.
EF Education’s Jonathan Caicedo then made a late move but was stifled by the remainder of the break. Ultimately, Herrada made a perfectly-timed attack to get away, taking a well-deserved win.

Just after the finish, the staff member can be seen in a Cofidis vest, jumping for joy at the sight of his son come in for the win.
Unfortunately for the team helper, a perhaps overzealous member of the Guardia Civil police force in Spain was having none of it. Thankfully he was fine, and got to embrace his rider after he crossed the line. Herrada’s father was also at the line, however he wisely waited on the sidelines.
