Canada’s Hugo Houle earns two-year contract extension with Israel-Premier Tech

Thirty-three-year-old Canadian Hugo Houle received a two-year contract extension with Israel-Premier Tech, the team announced on Wednesday. Two-time national time trial champion, Houle has been with the team for three seasons after four years at Astana and five with what is now Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale.

In an IPT press release, Houle said, “I’m excited for the next two years especially as it will bring me to the World Championships in Montreal in 2026 and that’s a big objective for me.”

On July 22, 2022, Houle memorably won Stage 16 of the Tour de France, the first Canadian to do so since Steve Bauer in 1988. Astonishingly, his compatriot and teammate Michael Wood would take a stage himself the next year on the mythical Puy de Dôme.

Houle came 50th in this year’s Tour de France, while another compatriot/teammate, Derek Gee, raced to ninth. He has 55 days of racing under his tires and is slated for Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec and Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal in the middle of this month.
