Defending champ Olivia Baril (UAE Team ADQ) won the Gran Premio Ciudad de Eibar on Sunday in Spain.
The one-day 112.3-km race in Eibar featured several lumpy sections and breakaways. Ultimately, Baril took the win from a small group including Sheyla Gutiérrez (Movistar Team) in second, and Yuliia Biriukova (UAE Development Team) in third. Canada’s Emilie Fortin (Cynisca Cycling) was 8th.
Baril came into the race as defending champion, which made the repeat victory that much sweeter. The 25-year-old from Rouyn-Noranda lives nearby in San Sebastien, so the race is pretty much on home turf. The UAE Team ADQ has had an impressive start to her season, finishing 4th on the GC in the Itzulia Women stage race. Baril will be targetting the Tour de France Femmes in July, where she will definitely has a shot at the podium.
