Carter Woods starts Lenzerheide World Cup with XCC podium

Racing is underway in Lenzerheide, Switzerland and Carter Woods already has Canada on the podium. The Giant Factory Off-Roat Team racer finished third in the under-23 men’s short track cross country (XCC) race on Thursday.

Woods was joined in the top 10 by fellow Canadian Cole Punchard (Hockley Valley Armada), who finished ninth. It was Switzerland’s own Dario Lillo (Scott Davos MTB) taking the win on home turf ahead of Adrien Boichis (Trinity Racing) and Woods. Owen Clark also made the 40-rider start list for Canada, finishing 32nd.

On the women’s side, Emilly Johnston led the Canadian effort. The Trek Future Racing rider placed 16th behind race winner Rojna Blochlinger (Liv Factory). Ginia Calouri (Thomas-Akros Youngstars) and Sofie Pedersen (Willier Pirelli) rounded out the podium. Jocelyn Stel was the only other Canadian in the race and placed 35th.

Under-23 racers now have a break until Sunday’s u23 XCO. That will be broadcast live on YouTube. Lenzerheide World Cup continues on Friday with junior downhill and elite XCC racing. Here’s who to watch in both events and how you can tune in from at home in Canada.
