Think you had a big week? How about a big year? Kateřina Rusá, a Czech amateur cyclist, is setting new standards in endurance cycling. Last year, she rode an extraordinary 55,555 km—surpassing the Earth’s circumference and her previous record of 50,505 km set in 2023.
It’s all about consistency
If you think about how hard it is to get that one-hour ride in before work,to put it in perspective, Rusá spends an average of six hours and 39 minutes cycling every day, covering over 150 kilometres, all while balancing a full-time job. 150km a day!
Her streak is even more impressive—since March 19, 2016, she has cycled every single day, racking up over 3,200 consecutive days.
From volleyball to cycling
Kateřina’s transition into cycling came out of necessity. After knee issues cut short her competitive volleyball career, she turned to cycling as a new challenge. Fourteen years later, she’s not only a seasoned endurance athlete but also a popular figure on Strava, where she has over 5,000 followers. Her weekend rides, often spanning hundreds of kilometres, have become part of her legend in the cycling world. Her best achievement came in a gruelling 24-hour race, where she covered…675 kilometres!
Ambassador for Festka
As an ambassador for Czech cycling brand Festka, Kateřina puts the brand’s road bikes to the test. Riding the Festka Spectre, she accumulates massive mileage, providing valuable feedback on the bikes’ durability and performance. Her riding experience is crucial in helping the brand improve its products.
She’s being noticed
Jiří Ježek, a six-time Paralympic cycling champion, expressed his admiration: “Those are impressive numbers. During my racing career, I maxed out at just over 38,000 kilometres in a year. I can only imagine the dedication and passion Kateřina has for cycling. Truly remarkable.”
More than just numbers
Kateřina’s love for cycling goes beyond setting records. It’s a lifestyle built on discipline, endurance, and a love for the open road. No matter the weather, she continues to ride, inspiring others to push their limits and experience the freedom of cycling.
A champ on and off the bike
Outside of cycling, Kateřina holds a degree from the University of Economics in Prague and works as an online magazine editor. She’s also a three-time Czech Scrabble champion. (!)
