In June, Johan Price-Pejtersen initially won the 2024 Danish time trial national championships, beating competitors like Mattias Skjelmose, Kasper Asgreen, and Mikkel Bjerg. However, he was later disqualified for cutting a corner using a bike lane, leading to Skjelmose being declared national champion.
The decision was based on UCI regulation 2.2.025, which states:
“It is strictly prohibited to use sidewalks, paths or cycle paths that do not form part of the course as defined in article 2.2.015, separated by curbs, verges, level changes or other physical features.”
A sad day after a tough race
“Yesterday I was named the 2024 Danish time trial champion, and that should really be fantastic, because it was a big goal when I arrived at the start in Herning. But the problem is that I didn’t win the way I wanted to,” Skjelmose posted afterward on Instagram. “I was less than two seconds behind Johan Price-Pejtersen when I crossed the finish line. The fact that Johan was subsequently disqualified for, according to the commissaires, having taken advantage of riding on the cycle path on part of the route, and that I thus got gold instead of silver, I neither can nor will take responsibility for. It was not a decision I sought out or pushed for—on the contrary.”

The 25-year-old pro can now finally wear the Danebrog jersey.
DCU’s Disciplinary Committee reviewed the case and issued a ruling based on the Danish Sports Confederation’s (DIF) Appeals Committee decision from December 3, 2024.
DQ reversed

And in which the Danish Cycling Union rejected Johan Price-Peitersen’s appeal, is remanded for substantive review by the Danish Cycling Union’s Disciplinary Committee.”
