Soudal Quick-Step is about to see a change at the top, with Patrick Lefevere, the team’s founder and longtime CEO, stepping down at the end of 2024. Taking over the reins will be Jurgen Foré, who joined the team as chief operating officer earlier this year. Foré, who has a strong business background, having previously worked as a partner at Deloitte, has spent the last 12 months building relationships with the riders, staff, and sponsors, which will help him as he takes on this new role.
The transition will also bring a new leadership structure. Foré will lead alongside an executive board. It includes majority shareholder Zdenek Bakala and Auret Van Zyl, the team’s legal counsel. Lefevere will continue to offer his guidance in a new honourary board role.

Lefevere founded the team back in 2003 and quickly turned it into one of the most successful in the world of professional cycling. Under his leadership, the team has earned almost 1,000 wins. This included 22 Monument classics, a Grand Tour, and numerous stage wins. But it’s not just the victories that define Soudal Quick-Step—it’s the close-knit, family-like culture that Lefevere worked hard to foster. Known as “The Wolfpack,” the team’s loyalty to each other has set them apart in a sport that’s often defined by constant changes.
The Belgian’s career in cycling management has not been without controversy, due to his outspoken comments about riders. Including his star cyclist, Julian Alaphilippe, who is leaving after a long career at Soudal Quick-Step to join Tudor Pro Cycling
Zdenek Bakala, the team’s major shareholder, praised Lefevere’s leadership: “Patrick has created a culture that’s allowed our riders and staff to thrive. Now is the right time to transition, and we’re confident this new management structure will help take the team forward.”
On Soudal Quick-Step’s future
Lefevere, reflecting on his decision to step down, said, “It’s been an incredible journey. I’m proud of everything we’ve accomplished. I’m confident that with Jurgen in charge, Soudal Quick-Step will continue to thrive.”
