Bahrain Victorious rider Gino Mäder had a terrible crash on a descent during Stage 5 of Tour de Suisse on Thursday at the 197-km mark. According to a statement from his team hewent off the road and fell into a ravine. The race doctor found him unresponsive, and resuscitated at the scene. He was then transported by helicopter to Chur Hospital.
Magnus Sheffield also crashed, and had multiple bruises and a concussion. The latest updates indicate Mäder is in stable condition at the hospital.
UAE-Emirates’s Juan Ayuso won the 211-km stage, with Dane Mattias Skjelmose (Trek-Segafredo) holding on to the overall lead.
