On Sunday, Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar Team) secured the 2022 Giro d’Italia Donne overall victory after stage 10’s 90.5 km race from Abano Terme to Padova. The Tokyo Olympics silver medallist finished in the bunch to take her third win at the Giro. Marta Cavalli (FDJ Nouvelle-Aquitaine Futuruscope) took second ahead of Mavi García (UAE Team ADQ) who rounded out the podium.
After a flurry of attaches, Krista Doebel-Hickok (EF Education-TIBCO-SVB) and Alessia Vigilia (Top Girls Fassa Bortolo) would get clear and create a sizable gap to the peloton. The twosome would come close to holding off the pack. At 4 km to go, the break got caught setting up a bunch sprint for the win.
Rachele Barbieri (Liv Racing Xstra) went first, but was followed by Chiara Consonni (Valcar-Travel & Service). Consonni would launch in the final meters and take the win, beating Barbieri and Movistar’s Emma Norsgaard.
Canadians Magdeleine Vallieres (EF Education-TIBCO-SVB) finished 38th overall, Anna Gabrielle Traxler (Roland Cogeas Edelweiss Squad) came in 45th, Sara Poidevin (EF Education-TIBCO-SVB) finished 85th and Leah Kirchmann (Team DSM) was 90th.
