The current world champion Elisa Balsamo (Trek-Segafredo) took her second stage victory at the 2022 Giro d’Italia Donne in Reggio Emilia on Tuesday.
An early breakaway with Matilde Vitillo (BePink) and Iris Monticolo (Top Girls Fassa Bortolo) became a five-woman move , gaining a five-minute gap. Along with the original duo, Giorgia Bariani (Top Girls Fassa Bortolo) Hannah Barnes (Uno-X) and Anastasia Carbonari (Valcar) kept the escape rolling.
With 50 km left of the 126 km stage, Trek Segafredo and Team DSM decided enough was enough and began a hard chase. As the peloton had the break in their sights, Giorgia Bariani (Top Girls Fassa Bortolo) attacked and got clear. But it was not enough, as she got caught with 4 km to go.

Once Bariani was caught, it was all set for a bunch sprint. Blanka Vas (SD Worx) hit another rider and crashed in the finale, taking Movistar’s Emma Norsgaard with her.
Balsamo would come around second-place rider Charlotte Kool (DSM) and Marianne Vos (Jumbo-Visma) coming in third.
