On Thursday, Juliette Labous (Team DSM) took her first Giro d’Italia Donne win, on a 112.9 km stage from Prevalle Passo del Maniva. The French rider soloed from the break, coming in alone up the summit of Passo Maniva. Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar) not only kept her pink jersey but gained a few seconds in the overall.
Van Vleuten would finish in second, 1:37 behind Labous. Third place went to Mavi Garcia. Canada’s Magdaleine Vallieres had a superb ride, finishing 22nd. Other Candians included Anna Gabrielle Traxler coming in at 49th, Sara Poidevin in 89th, and Leah Kirchmann who rode all day for her DSM team, came in at 105th.

The Giro’s Queen stage definitely lived up to its hype. In the final 40 km, the racers would climb 1,400 m of elevation. The tough summit finish absolutely shattered the field, with riders coming in in ones and twos.

Jumbo Visma’s Marianne Vos did not start, with a planned departure, looking ahead ot prep for the inaugural Tour de France Femmes. Vos won on Wednesday.
