Two passports were found at the Costa Rican hostel where accused murderer Kaitlin Armstrong was found, and both were expired. According to Inside Edition, a passport belonging to her, and her sister, along with a receipt for plastic surgery, at the Santa Teresa Beach hostel in Provincia de Puntarenas, Costa Rica.

Armstrong, 34, was arrested Saturday in Costa Rica in a small town after being on the run for 43 days. She is accused of murdering Wilson, after discovering that the victim had been spending time with her boyfriend, pro gravel racer Colin Strickland.

As the photo from Inside Edition shows, Kaitlin’s passport expired June 2021. Her sister’s expiration date was even older, from 2018.

So how did she manage to arrive in Costa Rica with either passport?

According to the US Department of State website, “Recently expired passports cannot be used to travel from the United States to an international destination or to travel to a foreign country for any length of stay longer than an airport connection en route to the United States or to a United States territory.”

Deputy U.S. Marshal Brandon Filla did confirm that Armstrong used a passport that was not hers to get on a May 18 flight from Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey to San José, Costa Rica.

After being extradited to the states on Saturday, she has since been booked at the Harris County Jail and will be transferred to Austin. She faces a charge of first-degree murder and and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. Her bond was set at $3.5 million. If Armstrong does makes bail, she would be monitored by GPS, and have a curfew, according to court records.
