The 2023 spring Classics season is well underway and this week the peloton are returning to Belgium, with the Classic Brugge-De Panne (March 22) and Classic Brugge-De Panne Women (March 23) coming up.
The race kicks off a month of hard racing in Belgium and northern Europe following hot on the heels on one-day racing at Opening Weekend, Strade Bianche and Milan-San Remo earlier this spring.
A sprinter-friendly race, the Classic Brugge-De Panne is set to play host to a host of big-name fast finishers, including Fabio Jakobsen (Soudal-QuickStep), Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck), Elisa Balsamo (Trek-Segafredo), and Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx).
Those big favourites aren’t the only men and women in with a shot at glory on the 211km and 163km races to the North Sea coast this week.
Mark Cavendish (Astana Qazaqstan), Sam Bennett (Bora-Hansgrohe), Dylan Groenewegen and Arnaud Démare (Groupama-FDJ) are also lining up for the men’s race. Meanwhile, Marta Bastianelli (UAE Team ADQ), Charlotte Kool (Team DSM), and Floortje Mackaij (Movistar) take on the women’s race.
