In 2023, Jakob Jewett won the inaugural Canadian Open Downhill on 1199, the new Whistler downhill track named in honour of Stevie Smith’s World Cup overall winning points total (1199 points). A year later, with a long break in the World Cup calendar bringing a star-studded international field to Whistler for the event, Jewett repeated the feat.
Jewett takes on the world
Jewett shares a podium in Whistler with two of the U.S.’s best racers. Dakotah Norton and Luca Shaw take second and third. The extended podium? New Zealand’s Tuhoto-Ariki Pene and the legendary Danny Hart.
Another string of Canadians finished 9th to 15th, led by Trek Factory Racing’s Bodhi Kuhn. Jon Mozell, Kirk McDowell, Dane Jewett, Tegan Cruz, Mark Wallace and Kasper Woolley follow in that order.
Lan returns to downhill
On the women’s side, Jenna Hastings takes the win. With Jewett’s win, that makes it a double win for Pivot Factory Racing on 1199. But, in second, Vancouver Island enduro racer Emmy Lan put Forbidden Synthesis on the podium in second. Matilda Melton edges out 2023 junior world champion Erice van Leuven.
Miranda Miller squeezed into the top 10 in seventh.
