Jonas Vingegaard to visit home for elderly as part of Tour de France celebrations

A grand celebration awaits in Glyngøre, Denmark on Thursday as Jonas Vingegaard, the winner of the 2023 Tour de France, makes his return home. Although the Dane already celebrated his win with his team at the world’s biggest cycling event on Sunday, the main event will be take place when the Jumbo-Visma rider is back in his hometown of Glyngøre, according to a report on Danish media outlet, TV2.

Massive celebration planned for the Dane

According to Susan Aaen, the city has been preparing for weeks to create a celebration befitting of a two-time tour winner. “It’s been a challenging process with many details to coordinate, but we’ve been preparing for this since last year,” she said.

The festivities have been meticulously planned, with Vingegaard choosing the first location in the city to visit. He has prioritized a stop at Glyngøre Care Center, recognizing its significance to the elderly residents and holding personal importance to him, Aaen said.

After that, he will be feted at a stadium where he will address the crowd on stage.

During the celebration in Glyngøre in 2022, the tour winner also stopped by the nursing home to greet the residents.
