Cycling fans: there is a new documentary coming out on RDS, that focuses on the reconciliation of Lyne Bessette and Geneviève Jeanson. Two of Canada’s greatest female cyclists, both from Quebec, were rivals in their careers but recently made amends and have become close friends. Both Bessette and Jeanson are former Olympians and have had extraordinary career paths. Bessette, for example, was a member of parliament after a long career in the sport. Jeanson went through several jobs after her cycling life to finally get to the right place.
Both cyclists have also faced significant challenges in their careers, including success, controversy, and personal struggles.
The documentary explores the emotional and personal journeys of these women. Lyne Bessette opens up about overcoming numerous personal obstacles. Jeanson, after a career tarnished by doping allegations and a harmful relationship with her abusive coach, found success anew in the restaurant business in Arizona before returning to Quebec to work as a personal trainer. After years of abuse and harassment from a coach twice her age, the Lachine native overcame her troubled history and continues to inspire others. Jeanson has become a mentor for younger cyclists and hopes to help other riders avoid what she went through.
The film goes beyond their athletic achievements to examine their personal growth, the lessons they’ve learned, and how they’ve transformed their challenges into opportunities. Their story is one of resilience, forgiveness, and the power of reconciliation.
