“We are thrilled to add Mapei to a growing network of official partners that provides a strong foundation for us to build the cycling community in Canada,” Josh Peacock, cycling Canada director of marketing and events, added, Mapei aligns with Cycling Canada in several of its core principles, including the development of local communities and innovation, and we feel that this will contribute to a meaningful partnership for many years to come.”
The company has been in cycling for many years, having sponsored one of the biggest teams in the sport from 1993-2002. On that squad were such legends as Johan Museeuw, Abraham Olano, Oscar Camenzind and Oscar Freire. All four riders won the road worlds. Canadian-born rider Piotr Mazur, who was 2000 junior world champion, was also recruited by the mega-squad after his win.
Mapei also sponsored a MTB team that Canadian Peter Wedge rode for, called Mapei-Kona.
