Michael Woods misses Tour de France's last stage because of COVID-19 positive

It should have been a celebratory day for Michael Woods on the Champs Elysees in Paris today as he would’ve finished the Tour de France for the second time, but unfortunately the Canadian had to go home early after a COVID-19 positive.

Woods was sitting in 36th place after coming 128th in Saturday’s time trial. He has two Tour de France DNF’s in a row now, having completed only one in 2019 when he placed 32nd.

Woods’ Israel-Premier Tech teammate Chris Froome was best placed on the squad until he too caught COVID-19. IPT’s Simon Clarke, winner of cobbled Stage 5, also left the race with the virus, while Jakob Fuglsang withdrew with a broken rib. The team heads to Paris with five riders, including Hugo Houle and Guillaume Boivin.

Woods’ next race is listed as the WorldTour one-day competition Donostia San Sebastian Klasikoa on July 30.
