Michael Woods to race Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec et Montréal

The Canadian champion Michael Woods will return home to race the two Canadian WorldTour fixtures, the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec et Montréal on Friday and Sunday respectively. It was assumed in some quarters that these races were on Rusty’s schedule, but Israel-Premier Tech confirmed his participation on Tuesday.

Most of the IPT Canadian contingent will be in La Belle Province: Hugo Houle, Guillaume Boivin and Derek Gee, the latter of whom was ninth place in the Tour de France.

Woods was recently at the Vuelta a España. Fatigue caused him to not start Stage 17, giving him five DNF’s in his last six Grand Tours. Offsetting that was his third Vuelta stage win, his fourth career Grand Tour stage triumph. Woods represented his country at the Paris Olympic games where he was 41st.

The current champions of the Canadian WorldTour races are Arnaud De Lie in Québec and Adam Yates in Montréal. Last year Boivin was top Canadian in Québec at 41st and Woods was best Canuck in Montréal at 15th.
