Ontario cyclist killed by motorist in hit-and-run

Irate pedestrian attacks cyclist, breaking leg

On Monday morning in Brampton, an Ontario cyclist was killed by a motorist in a hit-and-run incident. The driver responsible for the collision has been charged with impaired driving, according to Peel Regional Police Cst. Sarah Patten, who provided details at the scene to CP24. The cyclist, estimated to be a man in his late 20s or early 30s, was struck by the motorist shortly after 9:30 a.m.

Following the incident, the cyclist was transported to a trauma center, where he was pronounced dead. According to Patten, the driver, described as a woman in her late 20s or early 30s, allegedly fled the scene and proceeded to drive in the wrong direction, eventually colliding with another vehicle. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the second collision.

After abandoning her vehicle, the driver, who had lost her shoe, fled on foot through a nearby subdivision, as stated by the police. However, she was apprehended shortly thereafter and is presently under police custody. The identity of the accused has not been disclosed at this time. She has been charged with impaired driving, although the authorities have not revealed the location where she was found after the incident.

Demonstrating they were the involved driver if they were apprehended later can be a hurdle for prosecutors in Ontario.”
