In 1972, Ben Serotta founded the now-famous Serotta Competition Bicycles in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. There, he produced high-end custom road and racing bikes throughout the golden years of U.S. cycling. While he is best-known for building bikes that Team 7-Eleven rode in Grand Tours, as well as frames that U.S. riders took to Olympic competitions, he also dabbled in some wild and beautiful custom frames in the formative years of his company. As Serotta’s earliest catalogue says, “Custom was our first model.”
