On Sunday, Stefan Küng from Groupama-FDJ emerged victorious in the opening time trial stage of the 2023 Tour de Suisse. Despite the stage being anticipated as a fierce battle between Belgians Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-QuickStep) and Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma), they had to settle for second and third place respectively.
Küng, who has experienced his fair share of heartbreak in previous time trials, showcased his resilience and skill on the 12.7km course, securing a comfortable victory with a significant lead.
In the end, Küng put six seconds on Evenepoel and ten on WvA. The course was pretty flat, and the Swiss rider blasted home in 56.375 km/h.
Stage 2 of the Swiss event is a smidge lumpy: a 173.7-km race from Beromünster to Nottwil.
