Three Canadian men headed to 2024 Red Bull Rampage

Three Canadian men headed to 2024 Red Bull Rampage

Tom van Steenbergen will lead three Canadian men into the 2024 Red Bull Rampage. That trio will join at least two, possibly four, Canadian women in Utah this October.

Van Steenbergen is one of eight pre-qualified riders headed to Utah. The other two Canadians, Brandon Semenuk and Kurt Sorge, gain entry as part of the 10 Wildcard entries.

Semenuk is, of course, the only four-time Red Bull Rampage winner and the only rider to win back-to-back Rampages. Sorge was the first three-time Rampage winner before being joined on that list by Semenuk. Van Steenbergen was second at the 2023 event, behind Cam Zink. In 2021 he won the Best Trick award, but also suffered serious injuries in a massive crash lower in his run, setting the stage for his  incredible comeback.

2024 will also be the first year that, after 20 years of Rampage, there is a women’s competition alongside the men’s.

Riders for Red Bull Rampage are made up of the top eight riders from the 2023 event and 10 wildcards. There are also five alternates who will get to ride if any other rider is injured or has to withdraw from competition. The wildcard and alternate riders are selected by a committe of former competitors, pro riders, judges and industry experts.

“Red Bull Rampage will always be the ultimate event for me as it pushes beyond what you think you’re capable of both physically and mentally,” said 2023 Red Bull Rampage third place finisher Carson Storch. “This terrain and event will forever hold a special place in my heart, and I’m looking forward to returning to Utah for my tenth Rampage and putting together my dream run.”

A Canadian tradition in Utah

Red Bull Rampage was first held way back in 2001. It has been held 17 times since. Of the nine different winners, five are Canadians. They include Wade Simmons, Tyler Kalssen, Brett Rheeder, Brandon Semenuk and Kurt Sorge. Between those five, they have 11 of the 17 wins.

This fall, Red Bull Rampage will be held from October 10-12. As always, it will be broadcast live on Red Bull TV.
