Seventeen-year-old Ashlin Barry will join Team Visma | Lease a Bike’s development program next season, marking his entry into the professional peloton. The rider, who has Canadian and American dual citizenship, is considered one of the most promising talents of his generation, will be part of the Dutch WorldTeam’s junior development pyramid. Currently he rides for the EF Education junior squad.
Barry has already made a name for himself in 2024, his first year as a junior rider, with impressive results. He claimed U.S. national road and time trial titles, as well as victories in the Ster van Zuid-Limburg, Valley Sun Tour, Henderson Classic, and Tour du Bocage et de l’Ernée. His versatility was also evident as he won a UCI Gravel Series event in the Blue Mountains and earned second place in the world omnium championships on the track.
Will ride for Visma’s devo team for his final year as junior
In 2025, Barry will race for JEGG Skil DJR, the junior team aligned with Team Visma | Lease a Bike. Robbert de Groot, Head of Development at Team Visma | Lease a Bike, expressed confidence in Barry’s potential, noting, “We see immense talent in Ashlin, along with significant room for growth. We are very pleased that he will be part of our team in the coming years. This is the first time we have signed someone so young directly for our WorldTeam. It reflects our belief in long-term collaborations and working closely with talent from an early age to help them reach their full potential.”
The son of former professional cyclists Michael and Dede Barry, Ashlin was born in Girona, Spain, and raised in Toronto. He represents the U.S. national team through his mother.
A team of champions

They are great examples of how you can develop further within this team. Of course, I’m still very young and in the process of discovering my specialties. I believe the classics and time trials might suit me best, but I’m confident that this team is the perfect choice to guide me on that journey,” Barry said.
After finishing his final year as a junior with JEGG Skil DJR in 2025, he will join the Visma squad–either on its Conti or WorldTour version. “Whether and how long he will race for the Development Team and when he will step up to the WorldTour will depend on his progress,” De Groot said. “Thanks to…
