Ireland’s Cormac McGeough (Canel’s Zerouno) broke clear from a late breakaway to take a fantastic win at Stage 2 of the Tour de Beauce on Thursday. The second of racing went from Lac-Etchemin to Saint-Odilon-de-Cranbourne, on a lumpy and tough 169-km course. Overall leader Matisse Julien finished third, just behind yesterday’s near-winner, Evan Russell (Cycling BC), 20 seconds behind.
The majority of the race had an 8-man breakaway, which included 2015 elite national champion Bruno Langlois, who is racing Beauce for the 22nd time. Langlois is 44 years old, and to say the least, a veteran of Canadian cycling.

With the win McGeough takes the lead into Friday’s Queen stage, the 169 km ride from Lac-Mégantic to the infamous Mont Mégantic. Matisse keeps the young rider, KOM and points jersey.
