Women's WorldTour pro Lotte Kopecky finishes 22nd in Belgian junior men's race

Cycling fans did a double take at the junior race, the Wetteren Ten Ede on Sunday when they spotted WorldTour rider Lotte Kopecky on the line with . The multiple world champion decided to jump in the 86-km Belgian regional race to for some extra training miles. Kiany De Paepe (Isorex CT) would win the event ahead of Argentine Lorenzo Heredia and Thyn Gysbrecht. Kopecky would finish in 22nd, according to a report in nieuwsblad.be.

“We have never had so many spectators at our race before. Everyone was also very happy, including the juniors. They thought it was an honour to race against Lotte, and Lotte also helped to make the race harder,” organizer Dirk Fack said. “She attacked several times and rode in the break for a while. Very nice to see.”

Before the race, Kopecky said the race was part of her training for upcoming races. “This race will come in handy in my preparation for the world championships in Glasgow,” the SD Worx rider said.
