Yet another pedal redesign – Canadian Cycling Magazine

Yet another pedal redesign - Canadian Cycling Magazine

If you’ve ever been riding and thought, “man, I wish my pedal rotation was adjustable with an Allen key?”—then good news! Ambit has you covered.

Rotation brake

Apparently, pedal rotation is a big concern. Ambit’s patented stepless rotation brake lets you fine-tune how easily the pedal spins under your foot, offering “control and safety” for slopestyle or technical jumps. A quick adjustment with an Allen key, and boom—you’re officially free from the tyranny of freely spinning pedals.

1° incline

The Breach takes “flat pedal” to a new level by, well, making them not flat. With a 1° incline baked into the design, Ambit claims riders will experience better power transmission and reduced fatigue.

Service screw system

With three screws, you can dismantle the axle and dig into the guts of the pedal.

Felt seal

The Breach includes a felt seal to protect the internals from dirt and moisture. And while that sounds nice, it’s worth noting that a lot of other pedals already do this… they just don’t make a big deal about it.

Ambit pins

These special pins supposedly offer maximum grip, but if they’re not your style, you can swap them out for “classic grub screws.” Because what riders really want is more decision-making when it comes to their pedals.

Sizes and colours

And finally, there are mor choices to make; the Ambit Breach pedal comes in three different sizes and five different colours. What are the chances your local IBD has both the size and colour you’re looking for? Slim to none.

The verdict?

Look, we appreciate Ambit’s complete redesign of the pedal. And it isn’t bad. It’s a good looking pedal. If your shins are currently bleeding from slipping pedals, maybe this is just the invention you’ve been waiting for. If you’re a tailwhipping, barspinning grom you actually should probably invest in these. Or copy Tyler McCaul’s ingenious hack:
