2 University students riding 1,300 km to raise money for Kingston Homeless Alliance

Two students from Queen’s University are about to spend more than a week on the bike, but it’s not just for the miles.

From April 23 to May 1, Evan Romachyk and Orlando Madruga will ride from Kingston to Quebec City and back. That’s a big ole 1,300-km trip. Why? To raise money for the Kingston Homeless Alliance (KHA).

What the KHA does

The Kingston Homeless Alliance was launched in 2024. It’s student-led group focused on supporting people experiencing homelessness in the city.

A lot of that work happens directly on the street. Volunteers put together care packages with basics like toiletries, clothing suited to the weather, and snacks. Then they distribute them to people who need them. The group also works alongside local shelters.

How to support the ride

That’s where this ride comes in. The money raised will go toward building more of those care packages and helping the group reach more people.

If you want to follow along, the riders will be posting updates on Instagram (@ez.romo). Also, check out some funny stuff from Hustle Pro Cycling’s Patrick Harris about helping the two guys below.

And, if you want to donate, check out their GoFundme link. As of Wednesday, the two dudes have raised $4,158 with a goal of $13,000.
