After first race for new team Michael Leonard heads a WorldTour classification

It took one day of racing with new squad EF Education-EasyPost for Canadian time trial champion Michael Leonard to show his strength to the pink outfit. In Tuesday’s Tour Down Under prologue, Leonard placed 13th, enough to give him the white jersey of the young rider’s classification. The winner of the flat 3.6-km chrono in Adelaide was Ineos’ Brit Samuel Watson.

Leonard also wore the 2025 Itzulia Basque Country best young rider’s jersey after the opening time trial. That was during the last of his three years with Ineos; he now has a three-year contract with EF Education-EasyPost.

The Canadian is actually tied on time for the white jersey with Italian Andrea Raccagni Noviero, who is making his debut for the Soudal-QuickStep senior squad.

Wednesday’s Stage 1 is a hilly affair around Tanunda.
