For the second consecutive year, Canada’s Sidney Swierenga has rolled into the top-10 of a road world championships time trial. On Tuesday’s last day of Kigali 2025 time trials, Dutch rider Megan Arens won the Junior women’s chrono and Swierenga came sixth. It’s Canada’s third consecutive Kigali time trial with a top-10 placing, Jonas Walton having also earned sixth in Monday’s U23 men’s race and Ava Holmgren taking tenth on the women’s side.
The Course
The Junior women rolled the shortest route of Kigali 2025. Cobbled Côte de Kimihurura led to the finish line at the end of 18.3 km. The lone time check was very close to this feature.
The Canadian contingent was Elodie Malois and Sidney Swierenga, who was tenth last year.
Yvonne Masengesho of Rwanda trailblazed for the Junior women, setting the first mark of 29:43. By the time Malois got under way, a Chilean owned the best time at 27:28. By the time the Canadian finished, Norwegian Oda Aune Gissinger topped the charts with 26:24.

Swierenga was provisional third at the first time check. Behind her, Dutch rider Megan Arens was coming hard with a head full of steam. The Canadian was just shy of the Norwegian’s mark, but Arens cracked it with 25:47.
Spain and Norway took their first medals of Kigali 2025.
