After a long season spent dreaming of bike parks, the lifts start spinning again this weekend. Many parks are opening around May 15. From B.C. to Quebec to Ontario, it’s the same story: winter cleanup is done, berms are shaped and riders are lining up for opening day laps.
A few parks have already cracked things open, but this is the weekend it really gets going.
Whistler gets rolling, more to come
Out west, Whistler Mountain Bike Park is celebrating Whismas. The Fitzsimmons Zone is leading the charge.
Trail crews cleared winter debris, rebuilt lips and dialled in signature runs. Expect a strong early-season lineup, with most of Fitz open and a few big hitters phased in as conditions allow.
The rest of the mountain will follow in stages.
Ontario opens with a party
In Ontario, Horseshoe Valley Bike Park is fully embracing the long weekend vibe. The 2026 season kicks off on Friday and runs right through Monday. There are events and a packed schedule around the bike park. Lap-a-Palooza returns, with riders logging as many lift laps as possible from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday through Monday. Laps are tracked automatically through your RFID pass. The top male and female riders take home a season pass, get their name on the trophy and lock in bragging rights for the year. There’s also a First Chair ribbon cutting to start things off, plus a Saturday afternoon community hang with bike ambassador Olivia Monkman on the après patio. Matt Konings assures us he’ll have 10 of their 14 trails open.
Wilderness Tours
Wilderness Tours quietly kicked off its season May 1. Built on 87 metres of elevation along the Ottawa River, the park has grown fast, now offering roughly 25 kilometres of trail, including eight top-to-bottom descents, climb trails and a new shuttle setup that turns laps in under six minutes. It’s a different kind of bike park experience; part downhill zone, part all-inclusive adventure base.
Mont Vorlage
While their social media hasn’t fully confirmed Mont Vorlage is opening Friday, May 15, it’s a pretty solid bet. Friday is for pass holders, while Saturday it opens to the general public. Located in the Gatineau Hills, just outside Ottawa, the park will run weekends and holidays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Vorlage is a family-friendly destination with trails for every level of rider.
