The madness of Crankworx keeps rolling along with more events every day. 2024 saw the return of the epic Garbanzo DH. From the top of the park to the bottom (minus Top of the World), seeing winning times over 12 minutes of all-out downhill speed, Garbo DH is a brutal test of riders and equipment.
Whistler local Georgia Astle took the win for the women. She was joined on the podium by Vancouver Island’s enduro/downhill double threat, Emmy Lan. Martha Gill crossed the line third, keeping it from being a complete Canadian sweep.
On the men’s side, powerhouse Yeti rider Richie Rude won the men’s race, but by just 4.523 seconds after 12:35 of racing. His teammate, and curring King of Crankworx leader, Ryan Gilchrist took second. Did Yeti just have Garbo’s nubmer this year?
“I think we just made some good, I guess, strategies and made sure we have our lines dialed in,” Rude said after his win. Their EDR roots helped, he added. “I think, also just being big Enduro guys, this is kind of our track.”
Matt Walker took the chainless route to the podium, not by choice, after loosing his chain half way down the track.
