Jumbo-Visma’s Marianne Vos took her 32nd win of her Giro d’Italia Donne career on the fifth stage on Wednesday. The 114.7 km stage started in Sarnico and headed to Bergamo. Vos took the win by outkicking Lotte Kopecky (Team SD Worx) and Silvia Persico (Valcar/Travel & Service). Vos was part of an 11-rider breakaway.
Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar) avoid a nasty crash, but had to close a gap to catch up with G.C. contenders Trek-Segafredo’s Lucinda Brand, Elisa Longo Borghini and Mavi Garcia (UAE ADQ). She remains in pink after the stage.

The parcours was relatively flat, but tomorrow’s stage from Prevalle finishes on the summit of Passo del Maniva and should prove to be a huge day for the race for the overall. The stage 5 finale did however take in part of the 2021 men’s Il Lombardia riding the cobbled Città Alta climb before zipping down to the finish.
