Norway’s Oda Aune Gissinger claimed overall victory in the first-ever women’s edition of the Tour de l’Abitibi Glencore, delivering a dominant ride in Monday’s 9.3-km individual time trial.
Fourth in the general classification heading into the final stage, Gissinger erased a 51-second deficit to overtake Canadian Élodie Malois and pull on the leader’s brown jersey. The reigning Norwegian time trial champion rode the flat course through Val-d’Or without a functioning power meter, relying entirely on feel to post a time 29 seconds faster than her closest rival.
“This kind of opportunity is rare, especially for girls my age,” said Gissinger. “Even in Norway, we’re not that many, so it’s been a huge learning experience and something really special.”
Canadians Elly Moore and Eve Buczkowski took second and third overall, respectively. Gissinger’s teammate Marte Dolven claimed both the climber’s and sprinter’s classifications, while Malois held on to secure the best young rider jersey.
With the women’s event over, next up is the men’s.
