Sometimes the gossip mill gets it right. Canadian Cycling Magazine follows transfer-season whispers the way some people follow true-crime podcasts. For a while there’d been chatter that Premier Tech might surface alongside the Alpecin–Fenix structure—home of Mathieu van der Poel, Puck Pieterse and Jasper Philipsen.
The rumour gained steam when the Quebec company announced it was departing the beleaguered, now fully rebranded Israel–Premier Tech setup.
But soon after, Premier Tech appeared as a sponsor on the kits of France’s St. Michel–Mavic–Auber93. The key detail: the logo was present, but the team name didn’t change. That left some observers (like me) wondering whether Premier Tech still intended to attach its name more prominently elsewhere.
Cycling’s sponsorship rules only allow a company to name one team; think of how TotalEnergies appears on Ineos’s kit without being in the team’s official title.
On Friday, all speculation ended: it’s official—Alpecin–Premier Tech will be the name from 2026 onward.
And then came the second surprise: Hugo Houle is transferring to Alpecin from Israel–Premier Tech for next season. In a year full of contractual drama around that team, Houle’s move adds another twist.
Alpecin announced the deal in a statement celebrating Premier Tech’s long-standing presence in cycling. The company has signed on for three years with an option for three more.
‘For me, it was a natural move’ — Houle on joining Alpecin–Premier Tech
“I actually only signed the contract on Monday,” he said. “It all came together pretty quickly.”
Despite appearances, the move wasn’t sprung from IPT’s off-bike turbulence so much as it was rooted in something older: Houle’s long-running connection with Premier Tech itself.
“I’ve had a relationship with Premier Tech since 2017,” he said. “We built something strong together. When I joined Israel–Premier Tech, it was because the team approached me about creating a solid Canadian project, and [CEO] Jean Bélanger and I went in together. We had a good run. When Premier Tech decided to leave, the idea of continuing that relationship somewhere new felt natural.”
So when Premier Tech quietly secured its future with Alpecin, the door opened for Houle as well. “We work together closely,” he said.

Premier Tech’s presence in cycling may seem new-ish to casual fans, but internally they’ve been…
