Multi-time Swiss mountain bike national champion Jolanda Neff (Trek Factory Racing) made a rare appearance in a US cyclocross race Saturday and won the elite women’s contest at the Hunter Subaru North Carolina Grand Prix in Hendersonville.
The reigning cross-country mountain bike Olympic gold medalist finished 1:23 ahead of Caroline Mani, the recent champion of the US Cyclocross Series (USCX) securing second place.
Lauren Zoerner (Alpha Bicycle Co-Groove Silverthorne) edged North Carolina-native (Ignition p/b Rigd-Leitner) by seven seconds to take the final spot on the podium.
Earlier this year, Neff won the silver medal in XCO and bronze in the short track at the Mountain Bike World Championships.
The weekend of UCI C2 races at Jackson Park are part of the North Carolina Cyclo-Cross Series, and are the final events in USA Cycling’s Professional Cyclocross Calendar (ProCX). Racing continues Sunday with a second round of C2 races.
