Navy Bike Ride returns in 2026

The Navy Bike Ride is back for 2026! Once again, there are in-person events in Ottawa, Halifax and Esquimalt, alongside several virtual ride and run challenges taking place throughout June.

Cycling and the Navy

The connection between cycling and the Royal Canadian Navy might not seem obvious at first, but it’s long been part of life at sea. As you can imagine with limited room onboard ships, stationary bikes have become an important way for sailors to stay active and stay fit.

Over time, that culture has grown well beyond training. Riding a trainer is fun, but what’s better? Riding on actual roads.

That’s why many Navy members have become passionate cyclists both on and off duty. The Navy Bike Ride reflects that commitment to health, fitness and keeping sailors mission-ready.
Founded in 2016, the Navy Bike Ride was created to raise funds supporting members of the Canadian Armed Forces, Veterans and their families. The goal is to help as they navigate the unique challenges of military life. At the same time, the event aims to encourage people of all ages and abilities to get out on their bikes and embrace an active lifestyle.

The deets for 2026

This year’s in-person events begin May 30 at Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt in Victoria, B.C., followed by the Halifax ride on June 6 at the Shearwater Fitness and Sports Centre. Ottawa’s event will take place June 13 at Hog’s Back Park.

The Ottawa edition will once again include cycling and a 5 km run/walk option, with organizers describing the event as open to riders and participants of all ages and skill levels.

Virtual events will run from June 1 to 30

Across Canada you take part remotely. Options include the Navy Bike Ride Virtual Challenge, where you can set their own distance goals throughout the month. As well there’s the 520K Protecteur Challenge and the 116K Admiral’s Ride. A virtual 5 km run/walk is also being offered.

The 520K Protecteur Challenge celebrates the launch of the Royal Canadian Navy’s new Protecteur-class ship, while the 116K Admiral’s Ride marks the navy’s 116th anniversary.

Registration for all events is now open through the Navy Bike Ride website.
