The Canyon Endurace line continues to grow and evolve. The Canyon Endurace CF SLX and Endurace CF launched Tuesday. They are not merely lower-tier versions of the WorldTour-grade Endurace CFR that launched April 9, just ahead of Paris-Roubaix. Instead, they are designed for different rides and routes, while drawing from the template of the CFR. Below is a spin through the new models, as well as how they compare with each other and their pro peloton-focused older sibling (by about a month).
The features of the Canyon Endurace CF SLX
Compared with the Endurace CFR, the Canyon Endurace CF SLX has a higher stack and shorter reach, putting you in a more comfortable, upright position. The frame and fork are still aero, but only slightly less than the CFR. (Canyon says the CF SLX is comparable to some of the aero bikes in the WorldTour.) Like the pro bike, the CF SLX has shorter cranks; a size medium sports 165-mm-long crankarms. It also has the same vibration-managing flex in its seatpost, the SP0093-01 CF Comfort Aero. It acts like a leaf spring when you rumble along rough surfaces. Canyon says the Aero post provides 25 per cent more compliance than the SP0077 post used on the Aeroad.
Also, like the CFR, the CF SLX uses the CP0048 PACE bar. Remember, it’s the bar that lets you adjust the hooks inward (toward the stem) or outward, as well as the height of the bars. The more endurance-focused rig, however, has the Compact Drops, which have less drop, 10-mm shorter reach and more flare than the CFR’s Classic Drops. A CF SLX owner can add the Classic Drops aftermarket.

The CF SLX has more tire clearance: 38 mm. There’s down-tube storage, too. If you want to affix fenders, you can. Canyon recommends its Defend Fast fender system. To accommodate the wider tires and fender, the CF SLX’s wheelbase is not only longer than that of the CFR, but also the previous edition of the CF SLX (16 mm longer). That added length will boost stability. The company adds that the handling of the CF SLX is still agile. All models come with carbon wheels (some even made by Canyon, more below) and electronic drivetrains.
Ultimately, the CF SLX is less a racing machine (but still fast) and more for long rides: rambling…
