In a move that raised a few eyebrows, what’s old is new in cycling, it seems. Even if it’s six months old.
NSN Cycling has announced it will race in a special “throwback” kit modelled on the Israel–Premier Tech kit on Wednesday at Dwars door Vlaanderen.
The team described the move as a one-day tribute, noting that the kit design, color scheme, and sponsors may appear familiar to fans of the WorldTour.
“Cycling has a rich tradition of looking back,” a team spokesperson said. “In this case, we didn’t feel the need to look back very far.”
IPT and NSN
2025 was a tumultuous year for the team, then known as Israel-Premier Tech. Amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza, the team found itself the butt of many protests and disruptions. Although the then ProTeam was not directly funded by the Israeli government, its co-owner Sylvan Adams positioned himself as an ambassador for the state of Israel. The jersey also featured the name Israel and a stylized Star of David. The protests reached a peak at La Vuelta a España, which resulted in the team removing the word Israel. A few weeks later, the team was rebranded as NSN, halting its connection to Israel—including both the name and country of registration. NSN is now based in Switzerland. Adams has since stepped back from day-to-day operations.
The retro trend in cycling
The team added that the timing of the throwback, coinciding with Passover, was “entirely coincidental.”
This isn’t the first time a team has used throwback jerseys. Just recently, at Milan-San Remo, the ProTeam Polti VisitMalta wore a throwback kit dubbed the “Maglia Iconica.” It was a modern remake of the bright yellow-and-green design worn by the original Team Polti in the 1990s.
Last year Norwegian team UNO-X wore the classic green, white and red colours of the American team, 7-Eleven. The team even had former pro Dag Otto Lauritzen—and 7-Eleven alum, as directeur sportif for the day. In 2021, Alpecin-Fenix (now Alpecin-Premier Tech) wore a bright purple and yellow vintage-style that paid tribute to Mathieu van der Poel’s grandfather and his Mercier squad.
The NSN spokesperson said the team decided to roll with the “throwback” kit as they had heard other teams are toying with the idea. Visma-Lease a Bike is rumoured…
