The first World Cup of 2026 is just over a week away and rider’s are getting the first hints at what the downhill track will look like. A fresh course is always exciting, delivering a bit of the unknown and a level playing field. Which should make the highly-anticipated debut of a trio of juniors, Max and Till Alran and Asa Vermette, in the elite field all the more exciting.
The Mona Yongopyong track looks fast and loose. It starts with some wide open sections across ski runs that look a lot Lake Placid in places last year with flat corner and inside lines Plenty of line choice any time the track goes into the trees. A few big jumps and built up corners. A few big jumps into natural trails, as we’ve seen in Snowshoe. And one big kicker into what already looks like a a field of sharp rocks that should be chaotic, and potentially tire-destroying and wheel-ending by the time race day arrives. And then some wide open speed to finish it off. Add some cherry blossom trees blooming pink on the sidelines for very distinctive Korean flavour,
