Shimano follows up with ‘We Are Cyclists’

Shimano follows up with 'We Are Cyclists'

While discussions around nutrition in racing may be improving (maybe) among racers, the broader cycling community has a long and often troubled history with body image and diet. When it first launched, All Bodies On Bikes aimed to start re-shaping that narrative to forge a more positive, healthier space. Five years on, Shimano is checking in on the project, and its progress, with We Are Cyclists.

Five years on, is there more space in cycling for riders that don’t fit the narrow, performance-driven idea of a cyclist? Is it any more welcoming for humans of all stripes? As Shimano says in the intro to We Are Cyclists “Joy, inclusion, and supporting your fellow riders aren’t necessarily radical concepts.”

Lily Hansen-Gillis wrote a fantastic interview with Kailey Kornhauser, one of the two founders, when All Bodies On Bikes first launched. Five year’s on, it’s still worth a read, or re-read. Then watch We Are Cyclists below to see far the movement has come since that time.

We Are Cyclists – The All Bodies on Bikes Story

What does Shimano have to say about We Are Cyclists?

SHIMANO is proud to present We Are Cyclists, a new film that continues the story of All Bodies on Bikes, a grassroots movement turned global community dedicated to making cycling more inclusive, welcoming, and affirming for riders of all sizes.

We Are Cyclists picks up five years after the release of the original All Bodies on Bikes film and reflects on how what began as a bold declaration, that people of all sizes deserve space, joy, and visibility in cycling, has since grown into a thriving nonprofit with 14 chapters across the United States and a global community that continues to expand year after year.”
