On Friday, a new doc, “Sink Or Swim” is screening in Vancouver. It’s poised to be a night where bikes, stories and people all come together.
The doc
Back in 1994, 15-year-old Owen Vermeulen stepped off a Greyhound bus into Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside just as riots broke out. He then spent two decades of skateboarding, addiction, and trying, again and again, to get clean.
Then came a turning point, and here’s why bikes fit in. During one of those attempts, he met a local bike shop owner who handed him a bike.
From there, gravel riding would change Vermeulen for the better.
“Sink Or Swim” tells that story. It’s an inspiring tale of falling, getting back up, and finding a different path. And that path involves two wheels.
